Looking to sell your property but your bathroom floor, entrance hall or kitchen flooring is too dated and letting your property down? Then, one of the most effective and least expensive options is to stencil the floor and bring it back to life.

Floor Stencilling might be the answer. With the right materials can transform almost any floor, linoleum, slate, vinyl, tile, and faux hardwood. This can be a great weekend project and turn a tired, dated and dull floor into one that is vibrant with a modern pattern to give it the wow factor it needs.

And the chalky finish floor paint offers a hardwearing finish and is designed to resist knocks and scratches.

Follow this step-by-step stencil floor design using chalky finish floor paint.

Materials & Tools Required:
  • Chalky Finish Floor Paint (two colours)
  • Small foam roller & tray
  • Large roller & tray
  • Paint tin opener
  • Masking tape
  • Paint stirrer
  • Paint brush
  • Sander
  • Stencil
  • Cloth

Step One

Prepare surface properly by thoroughly washing the floor and allow it to dry.

Wooden floors should be lightly sanded, vacuumed, and wiped completely clean before painting.

Step Two

Apply 2 coats of Primer starting by painting around the edges of the room, cutting in a couple of inches.

Then get to work on the main area of the floor with the large roller. Do check on the tin for drying times between coats; the thinner the coat, the more hardwearing it will be, as it will dry harder. Don’t believe me, just ask any lady who wears nail varnish.

Step Three

Measure the floor to locate the centre and position the stencil in the middle so that it does not move while you are painting using masking tape. Then get ready to apply 2 coats of your base colour in the chalk paint of your choosing.

Step Four

With your second chalk paint colour, start rolling with a foam roller with a small amount of paint so that it doesn’t bleed. Follow instructions on the tin to dry before removing and going on to the next section to avoid smudging.

For crisp edges, clean the stencil frequently by laying flat in the sink and cleaning gently with running water and a soft brush. Repeat until the whole floor is covered and go over with the paint brush to finish off any bits that you might have missed.

Step Five

After all your stencils are dried apply three coats of Minwax Polycrylic which you can get on Amazon or if you’re painting a wood floor, cover the whole floor with polyurethane when you finish to make it last.

You can buy the stencils from a range of designs at Etsy, Notonthehighstreet.com, Amazon.co.uk, Ebay and so on.

You will be surprised how this will change the look and feel of the room. And the best part is that it will help you make a better impression to that buyer will be keen to make you an offer you can’t refuse.

Happy selling!
